Marinara sauce

Serves 10

Tip: Host a spaghetti dinner for 10. Make a huge salad, homemade marinara and whole-wheat pasta.

  1. Add 1 teaspoon olive oil.
  2. Add 1 medium onion.
  3. Stir continuously for 2 minutes.
  4. Add 3 garlic cloves.
  5. Stir 1 minute.
  6. Add 1 cup red wine.
  7. Let mixture reduce by half.
  8. Add 5 cups no-salt-added tomato sauce.
  9. Add 1 tablespoon dry oregano and 1 tablespoon dry basil.
  10. Add 2 teaspoons sugar.
  11. Add 1 teaspoon salt.
  12. Add 1/4 teaspoon ground fennel.
  13. Add 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper.
  14. Let simmer on very low heat 15 to 20 minutes.
