Callus

Description

Thickened layers of skin, often on the hands or feet.

Self-care

Soak the callused area often in warm, soapy water. Then use a pumice stone to rub off hardened skin. Apply moisturizer.

When to seek immediate medical care

See a healthcare professional right away if you have a callus and also diabetes or poor blood flow.

When to make a doctor's appointment

Make an appointment to see a healthcare professional if the callus is inflamed or painful.
