Illness-related jaundice

Yellow tint of the skin due to high levels of a substance called bilirubin. There are many causes, including gallstones, liver disease, and liver or pancreatic cancer.

When to seek immediate medical care

See a healthcare professional right away if:

  • Skin or eyes develop yellow tint.
  • Jaundice comes with vomiting, weight loss that happens without effort, stomach pain, easy bruising or blood in stool in adults.
