Hypothermia

Description

When the body loses heat faster than it can produce heat, causing a dangerously low body temperature.

Self-care

Taking off wet clothing, wrapping with blankets, drinking warm beverages and taking a warm bath may help.

When to seek immediate medical care

Seek emergency help if:

  • Symptoms of hypothermia, including slurred speech or mumbling, slow, shallow breathing, weak pulse or sleepiness.
  • Unprotected or prolonged exposure to cold.
