Self-care

Offer comfort and minimize stress if someone is scared by a hallucination; reassure if possible, but don't argue that a hallucination isn't real.

When to seek immediate medical care

See a doctor immediately if:

  • Fever
  • Seizure
  • Headache
  • Delusions, social withdrawal, and inappropriate use of language

When to make a doctor's appointment

Make an appointment to see a doctor if:

  • Occurs repeatedly
  • Recently started new medication
  • Persistent sadness and loss of interest in activities once enjoyed
