Wear bras that provide extra support. For intense pain, try medicine called a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that comes in cream form.
When to make a doctor's appointment
Make an appointment to see a healthcare professional if breast pain:
- Happens with a new breast lump, changes such as areas of thickening or nipple discharge.
- Happens daily for more than a couple of weeks.
- Happens in one specific area of the breast.
- Seems to become worse over time.
- Limits the ability to do daily activities.
- Disrupts sleep.
