Erythema

Description

Inflamed skin, either in a small spot or all over.

Self-care

Avoid harsh or perfumed soaps, detergents, and lotions. Also avoid known allergy triggers. A medicated cream or ointment may help.

When to seek immediate medical care

See a healthcare professional right away if erythema:

  • Is sudden or for no apparent reason.
  • Spreads quickly or covers most of the body.
  • Arises with a fever.

When to make a doctor's appointment

Make an appointment to see a healthcare professional if:

  • Persistent.
  • Painful.
  • Oozes yellow or green fluid.
  • Blisters.
