Ichthyoses
Description
A group of skin disorders that cause dry, scaly, or thick skin.
Overview
Ichthyoses are usually inherited. Some types develop because of a genetic syndrome or disease, such as Hodgkin's lymphoma.
Symptoms
Symptoms depend on the type. The most common include dry, scaly skin; blisters; itching; and pain.
Treatments
Medicines with salicylic acid or urea may relieve dryness and scaling. Serious cases may need a retinoid cream or other medicines applied to the skin.
