Overview
Foodborne trematodiases can happen after eating vegetables found in water, raw or undercooked fish, or crustaceans such as shrimp, crab and lobster that have trematode worm eggs. These infections are most common in East Asia and South America.
Symptoms
Mild infections might have no symptoms. Serious infections can cause fever and bad belly pain. Untreated infections can damage the liver, gallbladder and lungs.
Treatment
Foodborne trematodiases are treated with medicines that kill the parasite.
