Febrile seizure

Overview

A febrile seizure most commonly occurs on the first day of a fever. It may last a few minutes and is usually harmless.

Symptoms

Symptoms may include staring, severe shaking, or tightening of the muscles. A child may lose consciousness.

Treatments

Medical attention is needed as soon as possible if it's a child's first such seizure. Emergency medical care is needed for repeated seizures or those lasting over 10 minutes.
