Diastasis recti
Overview
Diastasis recti happens most often in pregnant people who are older than 35 and give birth to large babies or twins. Obesity raises the risk.
Symptoms
There may be a bulge in the middle of the belly. It might show only when the belly muscles tense, such as during coughing or when curling up while lying flat.
Treatments
Treatment might include physical therapy. Surgery, often cosmetic, can reduce the bulge.
