Broken collarbone (clavicle fracture)

Overview

Infants sometimes break their collarbone while being born. Other common causes include falls, sports injuries and traffic accidents.

Symptoms

Symptoms include pain, swelling and a grinding or cracking sound when moving the shoulder.

Treatments

Treatment includes an arm sling to keep the bone still, pain medicines and physical therapy. Serious breaks may need surgery.
