Angular cheilitis

Overview

Saliva collecting at the corners of the mouth can cause a buildup of microorganisms, leading to angular cheilitis. People with this condition may wear masks for work or wear dentures. Children using pacifiers are at risk.

Symptoms

Symptoms include painful sores and dry lips. People often describe a burning sensation.

Treatments

Treatment may include topical ointment or medications, such as antibiotics and antifungals.
